Message from FCGC Committee
The committee are here to run the society for the enjoyment of all society members & guests. We try and organise the rules & arrangements as best we can and obtain the best deal possible from the golf clubs at which we hold our events.
A quick note about the reasoning behind the FCGC handicap system: we weren’t able to move to the new World Handicap System, as there aren’t any decent &/or affordable Apps to handle the 30+ membership. The committee decided (per AGM) that we’d stick with the old CONGU based system for this year.
The aim of the handicapping system is to be fair for all & allow healthy competition. Per AGM we changed from the “cut” @36 points to the average of top 10 scores on the day, as which allows for when a course plays easy or difficult, as the comparison between players score and that average reflects the golfers’ ability that day in comparison. Per AGM, we removed -1.0 shot for winning, as that was unfair on low handicappers, as it was a larger percentage of their handicap than for higher handicappers.
The committee still believes that this is the best compromise system at this point and therefore will continue using it for the remainder of the season. There is the chance to review this again at the end of the year, ahead of the 2022 season
Suggestions regarding any aspect of how the FCGC society is run, are welcomed and can be raised via any committee member, or directly at the end of year AGM (ideally beforehand too, so that any suggestions can be given full & longer consideration and understanding).
Your ongoing support for the FCGC and the committee is appreciated.
